When The Game Expo convention had finished, there was regular talk amongst volunteers about Dreamhack 2023. So, I applied. The process was quite different, yet also quite similar to TGX at the same time. You find the volunteering forum on Dreamhack's website, which then leads you to an ESL website to apply.
The process was quite similar to TGX when filling out the forum, however the style of communication once accepted was very different. When accepted as a volunteer for Dreamhack, you had

to check the ESL website quite regularly, as notifications weren't received. Eventually, there was an invitation to join an ESL Facebook group, and then a link to a discord server for all Dreamhack crew/staff.
At first glance, it felt a lot more professional than the TGX discord. First, you had to verify your name, and wait to be accepted into other channels. Then, you could assign yourself a rank, to gain access to other channels. As a volunteer, you were automatically allocated to the volunteer channel when you were verified. Upon joining the discord channels, I had noticed that there was only one channel for volunteers, in comparison to the TGX discord. Of course, Dreamhack is a much larger event, so this is understandable. Ironically, I felt closer to the
people I worked with at Dreamhack by the end of the event, then I did with those at The Games Expo, (although there were familiar faces). There was a much stronger sense of community.
